A day on Cuba Street

Follow the counter through the day

Neama runs on a baker's clock. Pick a time and see what the cafe looks like when you walk in.

6:30am, the trays come out

Cornetti stacked in wooden trays, the first flat whites and cappuccinos poured before most of E14 is awake. If you catch an early DLR or start early at the Wharf, this is your stop.

Mid-morning, tables fill up

Bacon croissants, Italian omelettes and pancake stacks land on the blue plates, inside at the long oak counter or out on the pavement tables when the sun plays along.

Lunch, the oven takes over

Whole pizzas, calzoni and plates of pasta join the focaccia sandwiches. Eat in, take a box back to the office, or grab a slice from the counter case.

3:30pm, last calls at the counter

The cases wind down and the deli shelves earn their keep: cantucci, Nutella biscuits and Italian store-cupboard staples to take home. Saturdays run 7:30am to 2pm; Sundays the ovens rest.

About Neama

Italian food artisans, in the sign and in practice

That line is painted on the awning, and the counter backs it up: cases of cornetti and cannoli, focaccia cut to order, a chalkboard of pizzas and pasta, and shelves of Italian groceries to take home. It is a proper neighbourhood cafe with a deli's heart, tucked on Cuba Street just off Westferry Road.

Reviewers keep landing on the same two things: the food is genuinely good value for this postcode, and the team behind the counter get mentioned by name. One regular calls it a hidden gem for a quality, affordable breakfast on the run.

"Small Italian place but a hidden gem... the brunch and the pizzas were phenomenal."
